Dancers wishing to participate in one of Vision’s competition teams for the 2019-2020 season will need to attend our Team Auditions on May 29th-30th. Current Vision students and new/outside dancers will need to register for auditions and will have a $100, non-refundable application fee. This fee includes your dancer’s audition fee and yearly team registration fee.
Dancers will attend the audition based on their current age, regardless if they have a birthday soon. On the first day of auditions (Wednesday, May 29th), dancers will take mini classes that will allow them to demonstrate a variety of skills and genres such as: flexibility, ballet, jazz technique and tumbling. They will also learn a short jazz combo. On the second day (Thursday, May 30th), dancers will demonstrate the jazz combo they have learned for a panel of judges (Vision staff) in small groups of 4-5. They may be asked to perform the combo multiple times in a variety of different groups. Dancers may also be asked to demonstrate specific skills such as splits, pirouettes or tumbling tricks. Select dancers (based on technical level) may be invited to attend our Company Auditions later that evening from 7:00-9:00pm.
Please have your dancers wear tight fitting dancewear, hair slicked back into a secure bun and bring ballet shoes (labeled with their name). If your dancer does not have ballet shoes, she may take class barefoot.
Current Company team members or dancers who have received a special invitation from the Fusion/Express team audition will attend the Company audition on Thursday, May 30th at 7:00 PM. Dancers will take a variety of short classes including: ballet, jazz technique, & improv. They will also be asked to demonstrate flexibility and tumbling/acro skills. Dancers will learn combinations in one or more genres and will perform them that night in front of a panel of Vision judges in small groups of 4-6. They may be asked to perform the combinations several times in a variety of groups. Dancers will be scored throughout the night in categories such as: technical ability and level, movement quality, showmanship, confidence & professionalism. Current team members will also be scored on their attendance and work ethic they have demonstrated throughout this past season. Dancers should wear tight fitting dancewear, hair slicked back into a secure bun and bring ballet shoes.
*Select dancers from the Company audition may be invited to attend the Corps team audition on Friday, May 31st. Dancers who are selected will need to fill out the Corps team audition application and bring a copy of their current and last semester grades and a 5X7 headshot to the audition.
Current Corps team members or dancers who have received a Corps Audition Invitation will attend an intensive, professional style audition on Friday, May 31st 4:30PM-9:00PM. Dancers should arrive between 4:00-4:15 to check in, receive a number and turn in their audition packet (application, grades, headshot). Dancers will attend a variety of classes including: ballet, jazz technique & contemporary & should be prepared to demonstrate their best improv. They will also be asked to demonstrate flexibility and tumbling/acro skills. Dancers will learn combinations in one or more genres and will perform them that night in front of a panel of Vision judges in small groups of 3-5. They may be asked to perform the combinations several times in a variety of groups. Dancers will be scored throughout the night in categories such as: technical ability and level, movement quality, artistry, performance quality, strength, stamina, confidence & professionalism.
*Because we know that the audition process can be stressful and that a dancer’s ability and future placement should not be determined solely on how they perform on one night, current Vision dancers have been evaluated throughout the 2018-2019 dance season on similar categories and will have been given a base score that will be added to their audition night score. This score will weigh heavily on their placement for the 2019-2020 season.
Audition results and team lists for the 2019-2020 dance season will be announced and emailed to all families by Saturday, June 1st at 10:00AM. Every dancer who attends one of our team auditions will be placed on a team. Please keep in mind that we do or very best to place each individual dancer where we feel they are best suited technically and where they will have the best experience overall. Kids may or may not move up a level every year. They all develop and progress at different rates & for different reasons. The more supportive and positive their families are, the better their audition experience will be. Our goal is for the audition process to be a fun and exciting experience for every dancer!
